Solar Eclipse SafetySolar Eclipse Safety

The solar eclipse happening on August 21st, 2017 is a once-in-a-lifetime event—but it is NOT something that should be viewed with the naked eye. Join us on August 3rd for a presentation by local astronomer Mark Brown on the importance of solar eclipse safety, including easy methods for safe viewing. Free solar eclipse glasses will be given out to all attendees. Open to all ages.

On August 21, 2017, a spectacular total eclipse of the Sun will be visible across the width of the continental U.S. for the first time since 1918. Every state will have at least 60% of the Sun covered by the Moon--including Iowa! We will be partnering with the ISU Extension and 4-H to provide drop-in activities for all ages. Join us at the Marion Public Library to witness this special phenomenon.

SAFETY FIRST. It is NOT safe to view the solar eclipse without proper protection. The Marion Public Library is thrilled to offer free solar eclipse glasses to the public during our solar eclipse programs throughout August.
