Celebrate the Holidays with the Mount Mercy Handbell Ensemble

Mt Mercy Handbells

Join us this evening to share some holiday cheer with the bell ringers from Mount Mercy University.

The Mount Mercy University Handbell Ensemble was born as a January-term class in 2009. The original participants voted not to disband, but rather to continue as an ongoing ensemble at Mount Mercy. Today the ensemble consists of 11 students, faculty, alums, and friends of Mount Mercy University, ringing four octaves of Malmark Handbells and five octaves of Marlmark Handchimes. The ensemble's repertoire consists of both sacred and secular music, ringing at various venues both on- and off-campus. In past years, the Mount Mercy University Handbell Ensemble, in addition to performing in on-campus concerts and ceremonies, has provided music for the Cedar Rapids Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, Cedar Memorial Christmas Concert Series, the Variety Club Telethon, Annual Spring Concert at Hallmar Care Center in Mercy Hospital, the Mount Mercy/Methwick Lecture Series, and the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival Parade. The Ensemble is directed by Carolyn Sternowski.
